North Carolina Considers Freedom Of Choice Helmet Law

Feb 21, 2017  Greenville N.C.   NC House Bill 91, under consideration in the North Carolina General Assembly  would allow both drivers and passengers over the age of 21 to choose not to wear a helmet.

Proponents say adults should have the right to choose which safety gear they want to wear or not wear while critics say helmets save lives and prevent increased medical burdens on society with individuals who have no insurance and need long term care after an accident.

If passed and signed by the Governor, would be come effective October 1.  Some observers say it's unlikely the bill will pass this year and even if it does, it's doubtful the new Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper will sign the bill.
