Mother of motorcycle crash victim trying to find son's dog

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. - The mother of a man killed late last month in a motorcycle crash in Mayport is asking for the public's help to find her son's therapy dog.

Kasey Whilden, 24, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Reed, 42, were killed Oct. 20 on Mayport Road when a van turned into their path, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Reed's stepfather took  "Bubby" to the animal shelter the day after the crash because he says he couldn't care for the dog.

Now Reed's mother wants the public's help in locating the person(s) who took the dog at the shelter.

Reed's stepfather, Jerry Bessel, told the local tv station there was a long line at the animal shelter and a couple waiting in line offered to take the dog without going through the formal adoption process so there's no record of the adoption.  He said he thinks the couple was driving a Camaro.

Officials are actively trying to help Rodriguez locate Bubby and have checked records and surveillance video to see if the exchange was caught on camera. So far, they have not been able to track the animal down.

She asked anyone who finds Bubby or knows where he might be to email her at ssria12@gmail.com.
