Floyd Emde was the winner and averaged 84 mph on his Indian motorcycle. The year was 1948 and the party was still centered around the beach and the racing. After the races, small crowds gathered at the few bars on Main Street.
But speed was the drug...and either watching or riding, it was exhilarating, and addictive.
