SAMCRO Spinoff, Mayans MC Gets Pilot Greenlight

(*Spoiler Alert for those who haven't watched the entire run of Sons of Anarchy)

Kurt Sutter and FX network are getting back in bed together with a spinoff of the successful psuedo biker show Sons of Anarchy.  The new show will be titled Mayans MC and pro in March. Elgin James as co-EP and co-creator.

Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller’s death at the end of SOA’s seven season run in 2014, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border who struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel and his need for respect from the women he loves.

Fans of SOA will remember the Mayans as important recurring characters on the series, which was and remains the highest rated drama FX has ever had.

On the show, the president of the Oakland Chapter of the Myans was Marcus Alvarez, played by Emilio Rivera. Their cuts bore the phrase “Los Asesinos de Dios” which means Assassins of God. Rivera posted an image to his Instagram feed which leads us to believe he will play at least some role in the new show.

“I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice,” the Garden State born Sutter said. “Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice.”
