Harley Recalls 105,000 Touring Model Bikes

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Harley-Davidson is recalling more than 105,000 Touring motorcycles from the 2014 model year

According to NHTSA, 105,746 Touring models from the 2014 year are being recalled because a component in the clutch master cylinder may fail, reducing the pressure available to keep the clutch disengaged. If the clutch does not remain disengaged, the motorcycle may creep forward while the rider intends to be stopped, increasing the risk of a crash. The affected bikes are:

  • Electra Glide Ultra Classic (FLHTCU)
  • Ultra Limited (FLHTK)
  • Police Electra Glide (FLHTP)
  • Street Glide Special (FLHXS)
  • Street Glide (FLHX)
  • Tri Glide Ultra (FLHTCUTG)
  • CVO Limited (FLHTKSE)
  • CVO Road King (FLHRSE)
  • CVO Breakout (FXSBSE)
  • Electra Glide Ultra Classic Twin Cooled (FLHTCUTC)
  • Ultra Limited Shrine (FLHTK SHRINE)
  • Street Glide Shrine (FLHX SHRINE)
  • CVO Softail Deluxe (FLSTNSE)

The Motor Co. estimates that about 10 percent of the recalled bikes have the defect.

Harley-Davidson says it had received about 632 warranty claims and 266 customer contacts related to clutch functionality issues as of Aug. 19. "There were a total of 19 crashes (low speed tip over) with three minor injuries reported. There was also one report of an incident where there was non actual crash but a reported minor injury," the OEM stated.

Dealers will remedy the issue with a master cylinder rebuilt kit, which includes a plastic retaining ring that decreases the stress in the primary cup seal, the company stated.

Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will rebuild the affected clutch master cylinders, free of charge.  Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0159 & 0160

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Anyone having problems with their 2013 street glides cruise control… It is disengaging randomly while being engaged ..

Have 137,000 miles on my 02 Heritage and have bought many Harley accessories at a premium price only to find that many are less than premium quality. From boots, luggage chrome etc. Had a talk with the new owner of local Harley dealership and was told Harley would not stand behind their products. Granted several of my items were over a year old but had little or no use and were obvious manufacturer defects. I told new owner that if Harley didn’t think enough of their customers to stand behind their products I didn’t think enough of Harley to buy any more of their accessories and I haven’t and will not buy any more Harley accessories. Since it’s time to trade if and only if I buy another Harley it will not have even one Harley accessory. Anybody else have problems with Harley stuff?

Over 13,000 miles in 6 months on my 14 FLHTK. Not one problem. Couldn’t be happier with it.
